Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra is a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to changing the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families by offering year-round outdoor sports and activities, creating inspiring challenges, providing expert instruction and adaptive equipment, and rallying the community to comfortably accommodate people with disabilities.
Our organization serves individuals with disabilities that may have associated behavioral challenges such as intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries. We provide lessons for individuals of all ages, therefore interns may be instructing minors independently. All instructors must complete SafeSport training. All lessons are conducted outdoors in public spaces and no instructor is allowed with a minor one-on-one in the gondola (enclosed ski lift).
Our organization operates in a winter environment. Individuals involved with DSES can expect to be exposed to cold temperatures, snowfall, wind, and other inclement weather common to alpine environments in the winter. University participants can expect to spend up to 5-6 hours outdoors daily.
