Organization Description

Program Information

Population Served: Junior High students 

Programs: counseling & case management

BSW Interns will work with students both one on one and in groups. lead programs with students, counseling, field trip supervision, in-class assist, shadowing.

MSW students, under the supervision of a licensed school social worker, will have the opportunity to participate in the following learning activities:

  • Shadow individual mental health counseling sessions
  • Maintain a caseload of students that you will provide mental health and/or social emotional counseling to
  • Develop and implement mental health and/or social emotional groups as students needs are identified
  • Training and implementation in restorative practices in a school setting, including facilitating restorative circles to repair harm in various contexts
  • Schoolwide and individual suicide prevention including conducting suicide risk assessments and safety planning
  • Exposure to a fast paced environment where you will interact with students, families, teachers, and school staff daily
  • Support school with anti-racist, trauma, and resiliency informed practices
  • Learn how to develop and implement 504 plans
  • Participate on student behavior intervention team and climate and culture team
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance family and school partnerships at all levels
  • Collaborate with student support teams for students returning from psychiatric hospitalization

The MSW intern would preferably be willing to jump righ into a fast paced environment that is often unpredictable. A willingness to be flexible with your daily schedule in order to respond to crisis situation is needed as well as the ability to work in a loud environment. The intern should have an emergent understanding that clinical work in schools may look very different than clinical work in an outpatient or private setting. The intern must be willing to work as part of a team. 

Health & Safety

Interns will likely experience Code yellow/red lockdowns both drills and in real time at the school when risk arises. This may be trauma activating for some.
