Program Information Counseling Internship
Three counseling intern/trainee positions at CSU, Chico WellCat Counseling Center are available. Interns/trainees will be assigned to individual and group counseling determined by the needs of the WellCat Counseling Center (WCCC) and the interests of the intern/trainee, in consultation with the Training Coordinator. Each semester, interns carry an indivudual caseload of 5-7 individual clients and have the opportunity to co-lead a group with senior staff. Interns/trainees receive training in conducting intake assessments, are allotted time for completing case notes, and attend WCCC staff meetings. For MSW Concentration year interns the position requires 24 hours/week throughout the academic year.
Supervision and training seminars:
One hour of weekly individual supervision with a licensed member of the WCCC staff, two hours weekly group supervision with the Training Director, two hour weekly didactic clinical topics seminar, interns/trainees will audio/video record all counseling sessions for review with supervisors.
Qualifications:
Must be a concentration year MSW student currently enrolled at CSU, Chico
Compensation & Benefits:
Interns/trainees must be eligible for workstudy financial aid. They receive a $2000 stipend each semester and are not required to work when classes are not in session.
WellCat Counseling Center Peer Coach
Peer Coaches will be assigned to individual and group coaching determined by the needs of the WellCat Counseling Center (WCCC) and the interests of the Peer Coaches, in consultation with the Umatter Director and WCCC staff. Each semester, coaches will carry an individual case load of 7-10 individual students and have the opportunity to lead a group. Coaches receive training, supervision and are allotted time for completing case notes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Peer Coaches provide mentoring to first time freshman on a variety of areas, including:
• Social pressures, adaptation, separation
• Academic concerns
• Accessing student resources including healthcare, housing, food
• Reinforcing self-esteem and self-advocacy skills
• Balancing academic and social demands
Provide connection, emotional support, and coaching on holistic wellness through (virtual and in person social distancing) activities such as:
• Gardening
• Exercise
• Art/crafts
• Healthy cooking on a budget
• Mindfulness/meditation
(And more depending on Peer Coaches interests)
KNWOLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population; ability to establish and maintain relationships with non-student leadership of campus departments and off-campus organizations.
• Ability to learn, interpret, follow, and apply a wide variety standard of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program.
• Ability to facilitate group meetings and effectively coach students.
• Ability to continuously seek improvements in order to support the goals and strategic mission of the center.
• Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly as a part of a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards
EXPECTED WORKLOAD: This position requires 15-20 hours of work a week.
