Program Information The mission of Safe Place is to offer a visible support system for victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking, through crisis intervention, advocacy, and educational programming at Butte College.
Mandatory responsibilities for this internship:
-Training the week before Butte College courses begin
-Direct Services - hold case load of 3-4 for BSW students once trained, 5-6 for MSW students once trained, have a base knowledge of intimate partner violence, sexual assault and stalking, and Title IX, assist in temporary restraining order filing and advocacy during court
-Campus education - present to First Year Experience (and others as requested) classes, typically 20-30 students on the dynamics of IPV, SA, stalking, and Title IX, prepare and deliver campus programming surrounding IPV, SA, and stalking, tabling to promote events on campus and in the community, collaborate with the Queer Resource Center
-Develop own event, program, or resource for Butte College students - discussed further during interview
Student intern should have a base knowledge of IPV, SA and stalking and how these traumas effect a student's life, some knowledge of working with clients experiencing trauma and ability to de-escalate, a professional demeanor and understanding of confidentiality, be empathetic and open to differing views, be culturally competent, have excellent customer service and people skills, have knowledge of your their own personal limits and self-care tools, have flexibility and investment in program goals, have a positive attitude, demonstrate flexibility, be a team player, have knowledge of office computer applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), have some PR/advertising skills such as making flyers, brochures and educational materials, have a knowledge of larger macro systems of oppression and court systems. A MSW intern will be expected to be able to meet with students almost immediately and will have more responsibility than the BSW intern.
Weekend and evening hours may be mandatory
