Program Information

*Placement opportunity for the 2025-2026 academic year is the Homeless Veteran Program in Eureka, CA.  This placement is for MSW Concentration year students only. 

The Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) program provides emergency housing for homeless Veterans at a non-VA community-based facility. While in the program Veterans receive case management, treatment, and recovery services to aid with searching for permanent housing. HCHV provides services to single men and single women. 

  • The intern would assist with triage and backup for emergency walk-ins, as well as provide ongoing case management while establishing treatment plans and goals. 
  • This intern will work one-on-one with our Coordinated Entry Specialist to learn about the San Francisco coordinated entry system, and the efforts between the VA and community partnerns to end Veteran homelessness. 
  • The intern will assist with data entry/management,  by-name lists, attend community meetings, and learn about the overall system for housing, services, and prioritization. 

Prospective interns should be open to learning, collaborative, have flexibility to respond to unpredictable patient care at times, comfort with working within a large setting and a large group of providers, ability to enter and work within a large system and navigate bureaucratic -based systems and work in a team setting.
