Program Information

This is an opportunity for students interested in forensic social work. The students work with justice-involved individuals, both in and out of custody. The focus is working with clients considering participation in Mental Health Diversion pursuant to Penal Code Section 1101.36. They would also work closely with our Behavioral Health Services (BHS) and Probation Departments, and can participate in courtroom proceedings. There is an opportunity to work with clients in Recovery court (SUD-related issues). Students can assist with needs assessments as appropriate and coordinate with BHS and other service providers. 

An ability to interact with incarcerated individuals.

Court calendars and cases sometimes proceed quite rapidly and flexibility and the ability to deal with chaos/unpredictability is critical.

Must be willing to ask questions and request help.
