Program Information

Student interns at Butte County Community School can expect to gain skills in intervention and de-escalation techniques, as well as relationship-building with disengaged youth. They will also gain experience working with youth from low socioeconomic backgrounds, teen parents, youth with substance abuse problems, and youth with mental health struggles. They can expect to assist with helping students in career exploration and learning self-awareness skills. Our students will also be learning soft skills for career success, along with resume building and mock interviews. Our students will be working on project-based learning so an intern may assist students in developing projects, time management, and presentation skills. Interns may also work with families to provide additional support and assist them in accessing community resources. Case management would be welcome but is not a requirement.

The student intern should be flexible, patient, able to not take things personally, able to deal with chaotic and unpredictable settings, have ideas for motivating disengaged youth, and be willing to be a role model and mentor. The intern should be comfortable teaching and modeling soft skills and prosocial behavior.
