Organization Description

To facilitate the successful reintegration of the individuals in our care back to their communities equipped with the tools to be drug-free, healthy, and employable members of society by providing education, treatment, rehabilitative, and restorative justice programs, all in a safe and humane environment.

Program Information

As a practicum student at Folsom State Prison students will have the opportunity to do individual and group treatment with incarcerated individuals as well as receive individual and group supervision.  Common issues addressed in treatment would be things such as coping with the long-term incarceration, identifiying and correcting criminal thinking, grief and loss, parenting, interpersonal skills, release planning, and general work on insight into the factors that contributed to engaging in criminal behavior.  

Personal qualities that would be helpful in this setting include the ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment.  Strong personal and professional boundaries as well as a willingness to work with justice-involved individuals is a positive.  

Health & Safety

Folsom State Prison is a Medium-Security Facility and the residents here are very motivated to engage in self-help activities, however, there are risks inherent in working in a correctional environment including the possibility of encountering aggressive individuals and possible exposure to communicable disease.
