California Online Public Schools

Organization Description

TUITION FREE TK-12 ONLINE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Program Information

In a virtual setting, some of the tasks that interns would be assisting with or responsible for are attending trainings, case management for special populations (such as students and families in foster care or facing homelessness), individual and group therapy (if applicable), workshop presentations, parent workshops, professional development for staff. Some of the skills the student can expect to learn are responding to crisis, teletherapy support, and be trained in various therapy intervention techniques such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. We hope to prepare the interns placed with us to be effective clinicians in not just school based settings but other social work settings as well. Additional items that will be taught are effective treatment planning and documentation as well as collaboration/consultation with various staff or other agency supports.

Helpful characteristics for a student that joins our team as an intern would be: passion for helping disadvantaged or underserved youth, cultural competency, ability to adapt to unpredictable situations, willingness to ask questions or ask for help.
