This placement is for BSW students. 

Based on the Recovery Model, the Northern Valley Talk Line (NVTL) provides non-crisis peer-to-peer telephone service to the community 7 days a week from 4:30 pm—9:30 pm.

Someone to talk to when life presents challenges…

Learning opportunities for a student intern at NVTL include:

  • non-crisis mental health support 
  • active listening
  • purposeful self-disclosure
  • boundaries & ethics
  • community resource education and referrals
  • HIPAA best practices 

Student interns will complete required training prior to taking solo calls and will have an opportunity to shadow call workers. 

The student intern should be a quick learner, empathetic, calm under pressure, have open communication, and be personable. 

Health & Safety

Possibility of interacting with persons with chronic mental health conditions that may speak inappropriately, disrespectfully, or loudly (onsite support).
