Organization Description

Amity Foundation is dedicated to the inclusion and habilitation of people marginalized by addiction, trauma, criminality, incarceration, poverty, racism, sexism, homelessness, and violence.

We strive to improve health and promote environmental, social, and economic justice.

Amity is committed to research, development, implementation, and dissemination of information regarding community building.

Program Information

Students placed at Amity Foundation inside High Desert State Prison will gain experience in the following areas:
-Providing individual and group substance abuse counseling to incarcerated men
-Supporting evidence-based programming such as cognitive behavioral interventions and relapse prevention
-Learning documentation practices including treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge planning
-Observing and practicing motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented approaches
-Collaborating with CDCR staff and following correctional protocols
-Understanding reentry planning and transitional case management

The student intern should be:

-Able to work in a structured but sometimes unpredictable environment
-Comfortable working inside a secure facility
-Willing to ask questions and accept feedback
-Emotionally mature and professional
-Self-motivated and dependable

Health & Safety

-Students may work with clients who have violent offenses or mental health diagnoses
-Exposure to communicable diseases (standard for institutional settings)
-Must comply with correctional safety rules; no physical contact with clients
