Program Information

Our program offers hands-on practicum experience supporting students and families experiencing homelessness within a school setting. Interns will develop skills in case management, outreach, and advocacy while helping remove barriers to school enrollment, attendance, and academic success.Students will gain experience connecting families to community resources such as mental health, medical, and housing services, while collaborating with school staff and community agencies. They will also learn to advocate for students’ educational rights, including supporting unaccompanied youth and assisting with resolving enrollment or service-related challenges.Interns will build skills in interdisciplinary collaboration, resource coordination, and trauma-informed care. Ongoing supervision and professional development will support their growth in ethical and culturally responsive social work practice.

Students placed in our program should be adaptable, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable environment. The role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to build rapport with diverse students and families experiencing crisis.A willingness to ask questions, seek support, and engage in self-reflection is essential. Interns should be organized, able to manage both structured and unstructured tasks, and open to learning through hands-on experience. Compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to equity and advocacy are key qualities for success in this placement.
