Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP)

An internship at Campbell Commons with CHIP would provide students with hands-on experience in community-based social work within an affordable housing setting. Interns would work with residents facing challenges such as mental health concerns, recovery from substance use, unemployment, food insecurity, medical needs, and financial instability. Students would gain skills in resident engagement, strengths-based assessment, resource navigation, referrals, advocacy, documentation, crisis response, and service coordination. They would also learn to use trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered approaches while developing professional boundaries, communication skills, and an understanding of how housing, health, poverty, and access to services affect resident stability and well-being.
