Opportunity Summary 

Students interested in an opportunity to work with at-risk youth and families within a law enforcement environment are encouraged to apply for this unique placement. Focus is on education, prevention, and intervention. Students will become familiar with the principles of Restorative Practices, Social work, and counseling, both in the police department and sites within the Hayward Unified School District.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive an orientation to the agency and the services to be provided. They will also receive didactic training related to the disciplines of case management, restorative practices, and mental health education. Other training will be offered as it becomes available.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

CSUEB students will be working with students and families in the City of Hayward. Many of the families that we work with are at-risk of becoming system-involved or are already involved with the Juvenile Justice system. Working with this population sometimes has inherent risks
