Literacy Tutor K-5thAt — Reading Partners
Reading Partners is an education nonprofit that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to aspiring elementary-aged readers. Becoming a volunteer tutor requires no experience, as we provide an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books, worksheets, and set-by-step lesson plans to teach an effective lesson.
Literacy tutors must be able to commit to at least a one-hour session per week, at the same time each week, through the end of the semester. Tutors will provide instruction either in-person or within a virtual environment (online).
After a two-hour orientation, tutors will be asked to complete a Livescan background check, and submit a TB test (if tutoring in-person). Instructions on how to complete and submit these requirements will be provided during the orientation.
Once oriented, tutors will be paired with an elementary-aged student at a reading center that matches their availability and location preference. Tutors will be coached each week on how to best support their students.
Tutoring takes place Monday-Thursdays, 8am-6pm (depending on the school schedule), with some Fridays available for make-up tutoring sessions.

To get started, sign up for a tutor orientation here: https://readingpartners.org/volunteer-in-the-sf-bay-area/ and reach out to volunteeSF@readingpartners.org with any questions.
A 2 hour Orientation/Training is required. Then after tutors are in the Reading Center they will have on-going coaching
Live Scans can be reimbursed. 1 hour minimum commitment per week, but we ask students to serve the entire academic year since they will be paired with an individual student who needs consistency for their literacy growth. Tutors can support more than 1 hour / student per week, but will need to be committed to consistent scheduling.
