South Hayward Parish

Organization Description

South Hayward is a consortium of 7 different faith congregations working for social justice and opportunity in Hayward. SHP provides a number of programs to aid the low income and underserved in South Hayward. These include a food pantry, a GED program, a senior lunch and a program to address homelessness. We also have a community garden, hold nutrition and exercise classes and work to address social issues facing our population. Our zip code is one of the most diverse in the state and is the home of many working poor who must choose between rent and food. There is no major grocery store or bank along Tennyson Road. The incidence of diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity is very high along with low birth weight children and childhood asthma.
