Organization Description

Community-based, non-profit, outpatient mental health clinic serving primarily monolingual Spanish-speaking clients of Alameda County. Our services are wrap-around, client focused, strength based, family oriented.

Program Information

Ongoing needs and special projects:  UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT: Assist graduate students, clinicians, & psychiatrists in advocacy, case management, translation, I&R, and filing forms. Participate in Interns project. If pertinent student could do team-work with a clinician in the office or field. Commitment: last 2 weeks of August through 3rd wk of June. 16 hr/wk minimum; we prefer 20hr/wk. GRADUATE STUDENT: Responsible for own caseload of 6-10 clients from assignment through termination, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, therapy, & case management. Commitment: September through 3rd wk of June. 20hr/wk minimum; we prefer 24 hr/wk. (First year in the Title-IV-E graduate program are accepted at 16hr/wk Special information about this site: All applicants MUST be bilingual (Spanish); bicultural strongly advised. SITE REQUIREMENT: Site prefers (or has had contact with) students from a particular major or academic program, or with specific coursework completed. If so, please indicate above under Special Instructions. We accept undergraduate & graduate students for internships. UNDERGRADUATE: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in social work, psychology, counseling, social services, or related areas. SENIOR students only.  GRADUATE: Currently enrolled in a Master’s program or Doctoral program in counseling, psychology, social work, or related discipline (We prefer students who are at least in their 2nd year). STIPEND: $2000.00/yr placement for 24hr/wk. $1600.00/yr placement for 20hr/wk. $1200.00/yr placement for 16hr/wk. (No stipend if receiving other stipend such as IV-E or MHSA or ACBHCS or other funds).    

Health & Safety

SAFETY: The location can be described as a high-crime area. Location is in East Oakland; staff has been safe all along.

RISK: Students will be working with individuals who have a known criminal background or history of violent behavior. Site is an outpatient mental health facility; some of our clients when decompensated have violent behavior; staff has been safe.

RISK: Students will be working with "behaviorally challenged" populations. Site is an outpatient mental health facility; some of our clients are behaviorally challenged when decompensated; staff has been safe.
