Alameda County Social Services Agency

Organization Description

The County of Alameda Social Services Agency (SSA) provides basic safety net services to at-risk children, families, and adults. Our mission is to promote the economic and social well-being of individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities. In partnership with community organizations, private institutions, advocates and other public agencies, we strive to better equip those we serve to overcome challenges on their path to self-sufficiency and family stability to ensure that individuals are successful; families are healthy; and neighborhoods thrive.

Program Information

Are you interested in learning a new skill, making a difference in your community, and meeting new friends? Join the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program hosted by the Social Services Agency. Volunteer registration for tax preparers is now open for the 2022-2023 season! Choose from four sites: North Oakland, East Oakland (Enterprise Way), Hayward, and San Lorenzo. We need volunteers during the program’s operational hours: 2/8/23 – 4/17/23, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 5:30 – 8:30 pm, and Saturdays 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. (Schedule subject to change.) For more information about VITA, visit: https://www.alamedacountysocialservices.org/our-services/Work-and-Money/...

All that is needed is a desire and willingness to help others. We will provide IRS Advanced Tax Law certification training to all volunteers. In-person training sessions (3 full days) for new volunteers will begin on 12/6/2022 and will be offered weekly through the end of January 2023. Spaces are limited, so sign up as soon as you can! Be the “I” in VITA!

Register as a volunteer and sign up for the training here: https://public.alamedasocialservices.org/VITA/home
