Seth Steward for District Attorney 2022
As a proven prosecutor, decorated veteran, educator, and policy leader, Seth’s lived experiences give him a distinct viewpoint on the District Attorney’s Office and the criminal justice system. Hired by Vice President Kamala Harris, he prosecuted various cases, including arson, domestic violence, hate crimes, and general felonies such as robberies, burglaries, stabbings, shootings, and theft. While working as a prosecutor, Seth earned a degree from Harvard and served part-time as a flight engineer on an Air Force combat search and rescue helicopter, deploying to both Iraq and Kenya. Seth also taught criminal law at Oakland Technical High School and City College of San Francisco. In his current role as Chief of Staff for Oakland City Councilmember Dan Kalb, Seth has effected change in complex, difficult systems, engaged stakeholders, and built coalitions. As District Attorney, Seth will ensure that our resources are focused on violent cases, will send low-level cases to alternative courts to increase public safety, and will lead outside of the courthouse, working with community members and government agencies to reduce crime.
