Organization Description Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility (RJDCF) is one of the CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation facilities that houses approximately 3000 inmate-patients. RJDCF has one of the largest health care systems in all CDCR institutions, with a large mental health department that employs recreational therapists among its staff. This staff also includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. The mission of the California Correctional Health Care System (CCHCS) is to reduce unnecessary morbidity and mortality and protect the public health by providing inmate-patients with timely access to safe, efficient health care, and to coordinate the delivery of medical care with mental health, dental, and disability programs. CCHCS strives to facilitate the successful reintegration of the individuals in our care back to their communities equipped with the tools to be drug-free, healthy, and employable members of society by providing education, treatment, rehabilitative, and restorative justice programs, all in a safe and humane environment.
Program Information CHCF provides medical care and mental health treatment to incarcerated people who have the most severe and long term needs. The 1.4 million square foot facility is certified to provide intermediate level care and to complement less acute treatment provided in other prisons operated by the CDCR.
This facility provides both outpatient and inpatient mental health services for patients with a serious mental disorder. The licensed Psychiatric Inpatient Program at this facility is designed to provide more intensive treatment for patients who cannot function adequately or stabilize in an outpatient program.
The 54-building complex is located in South Stockton on the site of the former Karl Holton Youth Correctional Facility. It provides housing and treatment for 2,951 inmate-patients provided by a professional health care staff of 2,500.
