Grey Bears improves the health and well-being of seniors and our community through food and meal deliveries, volunteerism, resource conservation and recycling. Our programs include a grocery bag delivery to 4,000 seniors, disabled persons, and farmworkers throughout the community, a daily food pantry with food recovered from local grocery stores, and kitchen that serves breakfast and lunch daily using recovered food. Additionally, we have a large recycling, e-waste and thrift store program all of which help to fund our food programs.

Guitars Not Guns

Guitars Not Guns provide guitars and lessons to foster kids, at risk youth and other children in a classroom setting with qualified teachers. Each student is assigned a beginner guitar when they come to the first class. They are allowed to take their guitars home with them and are asked to pracitce 30 minutes each day.
Classrooms are donated locations and teacher are all volunteers. Volunteers are required to have a background check. Level 1 books are printed and made to fit Guitars Not Guns program with consideration of where each student needs to begin.
Many students have been abused and may have low self-esteem. By learning to play the guitar it may help build self esteem and teach confidence.

The Habitat Stewardship Project Monterey Bay is the education and outreach branch of The Watershed Institute at CSUMB. Our environmental goal is to protect the waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through restoration of the waterways and the lands by draining into the bay. We hope to bring together people in nature through restoration and education projects in the watersheds of Monterey County, from the Peninsula to North Monterey and from Salinas to San Ardo.
