Opportunity Summary

Reading Partners is an education nonprofit that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to aspiring elementary-aged readers. Becoming a volunteer tutor requires no experience, as we provide an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books, worksheets, and set-by-step lesson plans to teach an effective lesson. Literacy tutors must be able to commit to at least a one-hour session per week, at the same time each week, through the end of the semester. After a two-hour orientation, tutors will be asked to complete a Livescan background check, submit proof of Covid-19 vaccination, and submit a TB test. Instructions on how to complete and submit these requirements will be provided during the orientation. Once oriented, tutors will be paired with an elementary-aged student at a reading center that matches their availability and location preference. Tutoring takes place Monday-Thursdays, 8am-4pm. You can see a map of reading centers here: https://readingpartners.org/location/sf-bay-area/schools/ To get started, sign up for a tutor orientation here: https://readingpartners.org/volunteer-sf-bay-area-/ and reach out to sam.recinos@readingpartners.org.
