Opportunity Summary

Reading Partners is an education nonprofit that mobilizes community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to aspiring elementary-aged readers. Becoming a volunteer tutor requires no experience, as we provide an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all of the books, worksheets, and set-by-step lesson plans to teach an effective lesson.

Literacy tutors must be able to commit to at least a one-hour session per week, at the same time each week, through the end of the semester. Tutors will provide instruction either in-person or within a virtual environment (online).

After a two-hour orientation, tutors will be asked to complete a Livescan background check, and submit a TB test (if tutoring in-person). Instructions on how to complete and submit these requirements will be provided during the orientation.

Once oriented, tutors will be paired with an elementary-aged student at a reading center that matches their availability and location preference. Tutors will be coached each week on how to best support their students.

Tutoring takes place Monday-Thursdays, 8am-6pm (depending on the school schedule), with some Fridays available for make-up tutoring sessions.
