Metropolitan Golf Links
Metropolitan Golf Links was designed by Fred Bliss and Johnny Miller and opened to the public in April 2003. It is an 18-hole links style course featuring USGA-specification greens and boasts superior drainage than its neighboring competitors. The facility features an all-grass driving range with 37 stalls, short game practice area, and is home to the UC Berkeley golf teams’ short game practice facility. The course was built upon dredged materials from the Oakland Estuary, which was laid on top of the Lew Galbraith Golf Course following the course’s closure in 1993. The Galbraith course had been open for 30 years and was built atop an improperly closed landfill that was mandated by the EPA to be properly covered. The property is owned by the Port of Oakland and is subleased to the City of Oakland who in turn subleases the property to Oakland Golf, LLC, a subdivision of CourseCo, Inc. Metropolitan Golf Links proudly serves the golfers in Oakland (residents) and greater San Francisco East Bay. Thanks to the superior drainage and fun layout, this course is one of the most popular in the wintertime. In 2017, Fairview Metropolitan opened as the golf course took over running all food and beverage operations from its longtime partner, Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet Center. Fairview Metropolitan is a busy operation that hosts weddings year-round along with lots of parties, meetings, services, and other events in the banquet room and tent!
