About

Chicas Verdes empowers students to create healthy, sustainable systems in their communities through eliminating disparities in four areas: food access, green space, water quality, and waste management. Chicas Verdes has a three pronged approach for making an impact on personal, environmental, and community health; we develop community awareness, create systems to improve access to resources, and model behavioral change. Students grow their own food in school gardens, run farmers markets, and put on healthy habit workshops for community members. Through these social justice initiatives, students learn entrepreneurship skills that they use to improve their own lives and the community they live in.

The Child Development Centers of the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) focus on providing early childhood education and development programs. Children’s Learning Connection of Orange County, CA offers speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and ABA therapy for children, infants and families dealing with developmental delays, speech disorders, language disorders, sensory processing disorders, motor disorders, apraxia, auditory processing, social skills deficiencies, feeding challenges, behavior challenges, and autism.

Christian Outreach in Action (COA) is a nondenominational, nonprofit organization that has been serving the community for over 37 years. They are not a church but follow faith-based teachings that tell us to provide compassionate assistance to those in need. They are compelled by the need around us to feed people in need, provide spiritual support, help heal the sick…and to ultimately teach them the skills necessary to reach and sustain self-sufficiency.

• COA provides a warm meal every day to anyone who comes to our doorstep – homeless and near-homeless people, low-income families, and single moms – anyone. COA provided 132,000 meals this past year, with the demands increasing on a daily basis.
• COA provides groceries twice a week to many families. Clothing, diapers, and furniture are also available weekly. We are proud to announce local partnerships that have allowed us to offer a twice weekly medical clinic to the downtown Long Beach community, a computer lab for skills training and job searches, and a free legal clinic.
• COA provides unique services: a pet food bank, bi-monthly senior events, and holiday celebrations.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy climate change organization focused on national policies to address climate change.
