Students should come prepared to interact with tenants, but don't need to have experience in tenants rights information. We welcome all people and skill leave, but it would be great it students are able to work Microsoft and Excel.

Culturally attuned and holistic mental health services for underserved refugee and immigrant communities Founded in 2005 by bilingual/bicultural mental health professionals, CERI is an Oakland-based nonprofit organization offering mental health and other social services to refugees and immigrants affected by war, torture, genocide and other life-altering traumas.

Organization Description The Center for Social Dynamics (CSD) is a multi-cultural organization providing ABA autism treatment to diverse populations in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have a strong commitment to: Rapid responding to evolving child and parent needs Cultural sensitivity to family values and generational dynamics A Multi-disciplinary approach to evidence-based methods Creative play in a Natural Learning Environment and structured Intensive Teaching. CSD’s behavioral therapy techniques are grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a discipline devoted to understanding and improving socially significant behavior and reaching goals that matter. Through the use of ABA principles, we teach communication, flexibility, socialization, and daily living skills. We embrace opportunities to engage and participate in the communities we serve. By taking part in local events, disability charities, conferences and activities with community partners, we can connect and have some fun with our clients, families, and their communities. We focus on improving social, communication, academic, and independent living skills in a positive, supportive environment through personalized and evidence-based behavioral services. Through diagnostic evaluations, comprehensive and focused ABA therapies, Speech and Occupational therapies, counseling services, we motivate individuals – from 12 months old through adulthood – to embrace learning by embedding therapy within their natural routines at home, in school, at our Centers, or out in the community. CAUSE is a base-building organization committed to social, economic, and environmental justice for working-class and immigrant communities in California’s Central Coast. We build grassroots power through community organizing, leadership development, coalition building, civic engagement, policy research, and advocacy. CAUSE's vision is that together we can create a global community where we all contribute to, and benefit from, a sustainable economy that is just, prosperous and environmentally healthy.

Centro Legal de la Raza was founded in 1969 by law students in the Fruitvale of Oakland. Originally, Centro’s founders centered their work around addressing police brutality, immigration, education rights, and conscientious objector status during the Vietnam War. Since then, Centro has widely expanded but is still located in the Fruitvale area. We now have four main programs: Tenants’ Rights, Immigrants’ Rights, and Workers’ Rights, and a Youth Law Academy to support high school students of color in pursuing ambitions towards legal careers. Additionally, we practice affirmative litigation in state and federal courts, including class actions. Centro provides legal services and education, and engages in policy advocacy and representation for low-income, immigrant communities and communities of color in the East Bay. Chabot Space & Science Center is a non-profit science center that serves Oakland and the greater Bay Area as a place for STEM learning and engagement. Our mission is to inspire and educate learners of all ages about the Universe and Planet Earth.

Challenge School is committed to educating the whole person. We strive to unite the best elements of Eastern and Western traditions and practices and grow the individual’s inquiring mind. Our curriculum is designed to be developmentally appropriate for each age level, rooted in bilingual education and a multicultural environment. We utilize instructional and information technology, fusing both Western and Chinese philosophies for individual character development. Our holistic approach to education involves cooperation with parents, family, and the community around us.

Chews Life Rescue was founded by a group of animal lovers in Los Angeles, CA. We are dedicated to rescuing and providing love to animals of all kinds from local high kill shelters, neglectful situations, or off the streets. Currently, Chews Life Rescue operates in San Diego County. We are 100% volunteer run. Some animals are in foster care, others live on our Founder’s ranch, and others stay with behaviorists whom we pay to help train and board them when necessary. We pride ourselves on giving second chances to animals (especially misunderstood) dogs who no one else will give a chance to. We primarily rescue bully breed dogs who have been deemed "aggressive" due to past abuse or neglect. We work closely with dog behaviorists and trainers to rehabilitate these dogs and change the public's perception of dogs. We are firm believers that a dog is only as good as the person leading him/her; we are here not only to save dogs from euthanasia but also to help teach the public about dog psychology and learn how to take responsibility for how a dog behaves. We believe that all creatures deserve security, safety, and stability. While our focus has been on dogs for the past 10 years we have recently expanded into an all animal rescue/sanctuary.
