**Exception Site for Fall 2026

Davis Vanguard is committed to transparent journalism, driving reform, amplifying voices, and exposing systemic injustices, particularly those affecting marginalized communities. Through our investigative journalism, Court Watch program, and Vanguard Incarcerated Press, we aim to serve those often neglected or mistreated in our judicial system and mainstream media. This includes members of the BIPOC community, the LGBTQ+ community, individuals with disabilities, the unhoused, and those who are economically disadvantaged.

Interested in gaining hands on experience in journalistic writing? Passionate about criminal justice reform? Pursuing a career in law? Then apply to be an intern with the Davis Vanguard- applications are reviewed on a rolling basis!!

Intern Requirements:

• Over 18 years of age (*there are exceptions for interested high school students!*)
• Attending college
• Can commit to 10 hours a week for 3 months
• Must be able to attend weekly intern meetings on Mondays, 6:30pm PST

Court Watch interns gain the opportunity to:

• Write journalistic articles or press rewrites for a local online publication
• Get their work published on the Vanguard website under their own names
• Gain course credit upon arrangement with their institutions

All students, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation, are open and welcome to participate.

For over 48 years, DAYS Long Beach has served low-income, under-served youth and families in the Long Beach area. We provide youth with opportunities to grow academically and personally through educational, leadership and character development programs. Our services allow students to practice skills they have learned in the classroom, increase their desire to learn, and build positive relationships within the community. Through our extensive partnerships and collaborations, DAYS Long Beach is able to offer numerous services that effect the daily lives of the youth and their families. DAYS Long Beach provides programming in the following three areas: Youth Education and Development, Leadership and Academic Success and Parent and Family Support. All of our programs are made accessible through transportation assistance, language support and translation, and by remaining free of charge for all participants.
